James "Jim" Paul Davis, 59, died Sunday, Sept. 16. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Sept 21, at Haven of Rest Funeral Home, Gig Harbor, Wash., (253) 851-9991. An informal gathering will follow at 2 p.m. to celebrate Jim's life.
James "Jim" Paul Davis was born Feb. 1, 1948, in Marshalltown, to Raymond and Mildred Davis. He served in the U.S. Navy as a yeoman and left with an honorable discharge in 1973. He married Linda Delfs (Eastman) in 1974, and became a father to Tara Lin. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1978, with two bachelor's degrees in journalism and mass communications and sociology.
The family moved to Pierce County in Washington State, settling in Gig Harbor, Wash. He worked several years as a surveyor on the Olympic Peninsula and then moved on to work for the city of Tacoma as a plans examiner where he retired in fall 2006.
He had many plans for retirement including home projects and traveling to visit friends and relatives in Iowa, as well as adventuring to new places. He was very much looking forward to his daughter, Tara, giving birth to his first grandchild in November.
He is survived by his daughter, Tara, of Spanaway, Wash. Other surviving relatives live in Iowa. He was loved much and will be missed greatly.
