Max Anderson, 64, of Collins, died Monday, Aug. 6, at Story County Medical Center in Nevada. Funeral services are pending with Chet Ryan Mortuary and Cremation Services in Nevada.

Max Arnold Anderson, 64, of Collins, died Monday, Aug. 6, at Story County Medical Center in Nevada. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at United Methodist Church in Collins with Pastor Pam Flanigan officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Collins.
Max Arnold Anderson was born Sept.16, 1942, in Ames, the son of Frederick W. and Mabel E. (Dugger) Anderson. He served in the U.S. Navy.
He married Elaine Jean Evans Jan. 4, 1988, in Collins. He retired in 2003 as a secondary road maintainer for Story County. He served as the commander of the Collins American Legion. He enjoyed tractors, weaving, puzzles, reading, garage sales, spending time with family and helping others.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine, of Collins; one son, Bruce Vasey (Ronda), of Collins; three daughters, Melissa Anderson, of Joplin, Mo., Mindy Fritz (Jeff), of Colo, and Kelly Oglesby (Randy), of Collins; two sisters, Marjorie Sargent and Wanda Oswalt (Russ), all of Collins; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Joe Anderson and Jim Anderson.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the church.
A memorial fund has been established for Collins Community Projects.
Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada is in charge of arrangements.
