Gordon Sweitzer, 77, of Silver City, N.M., died Thursday, July 26. The body will be cremated and there are no flowers or memorials desired.
Gordon Sweitzer was born Sept. 19, 1929, in Three Rivers, Mich., and was raised in Beloit, Wis. He left Iowa State University to join the U.S. Marine Corps, and after four years as an enlisted man and an officer serving in Korea, he returned to Iowa State University where he received a bachelor of science degree. He continued his association with the Marine Corps Reserve and retired in 1989 as a colonel. He worked for state highway departments in New Mexico and Iowa, retiring from the Iowa Department of Transportation in 1990. After retiring, he and his wife moved to Silver City, N.M.
He is survived by his children, Lee Rougemont and her husband, Bill Rougemont, of Santa Fe, N.M., Mary E. Sweitzer, of Santa Fe, N.M., and Murray R. Sweitzer, of Chicago; and two grandsons, Neil and Brian Rougemont, of Santa Fe, N.M.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet L. Sweitzer, and his parents, Irma I. and C. Raymond Schweitzer (aka) Sweitzer.
