Doris W Helland, 81, of Story City passed -away -Monday, June 5, 2006 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services were held Thursday, June 8, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Petri Lutheran Church with burial following at Story City Municipal Cemetery. Visitation was held Wednesday, June 7, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City.

Doris W. Helland was born Oct. 21, 1924 to Jacob and Lena (Wicks) Jacobson in Story County, Iowa. She married Jesse S. Helland on July 2, 1944 at Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland, Iowa. They moved to Story City in 1946 and operated the Maid-Rite from 1945 to 1949. She also worked at Bethany Manor. Doris was a member of St. Petri Lutheran Church. She was a fan of Iowa Hawkeye basketball and liked her pets and listening to gospel music. She loved her family and grandkids.

Doris is survived by her son, Mark Helland of Story City; her daughter, Nancy and husband Kevin Hurd of Coralville, Iowa; and two grandchildren, Katie and Jacob Hurd.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Jan Douglas, and an infant son; five brothers; and four sisters.

A memorial has been established in her name.
