Amos H. Oakland, of Hubbard, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006. Funeral services were held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Radcliffe at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 28. with the Rev. Daniel Hart officiating. Interment was at the Radcliffe Cemetery in Radcliffe.

Amos Harley Oakland was born Dec. 20, 1924 in rural Radcliffe, Iowa, the seventh of ten children born to Hans T. and Marie (Madsen) Oakland.

He graduated from Radcliffe High School in 1942. Amos served in the US Army from 1945 to 1947. He farmed with his parents on a farm northwest of Radcliffe.

On Oct. 4, 1958, Amos was united in marriage to Anna Mae Alfseike at Elim Lutheran Church in Randall. After their marriage, Amos' parents retired from farming and Amos and Anna Mae continued farming on the same farm until Amos' retirement in 1986.

In 1987, they moved to Radcliffe and remained there until Anna Mae moved into the Hubbard Care Center in 2002 and Amos joined her in August 2003. They enjoyed living together at the Hubbard Care Center these past several years.

Amos died on Oct. 25, 2006 at the Hubbard Care Center surrounded by his wife and three daughters.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Anna Mae; three daughters, Alice (Ken) Fowlkes of Holland, Iowa, Ann (John) Griffin of Aurora, Illinois and Andrea (Scott) Aman of Ames; four granddaughters, Rachel and Kendra Fowlkes, Gloria and Monica Griffin; one sister Amy Heitritter of Des Moines; along with other relatives and friends.

Amos was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Alfred, Martin, Henry, Richard, Wayne (in infancy), three sisters Sophie Neese, Mae Anderson and Esther Kline.
