William Russell Haugsted, 98 of Nevada died on Sunday, July 22 at Story County Long Term Care in Nevada. Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 25 at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Steve Williams officiating. Burial followed in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Bill was born on December 28, 1908 in Nevada to Lars and Laura (Nelson) Haugsted. He was a graduate of Nevada High School. On December 14, 1940, he married Velora M. Peterson in Nevada. Bill was employed by the Nevada Evening Journal for over 40 years. He worked as a pressman, linotype operator and also as a photographer in his earlier years with the paper. Bill was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Nevada. In his free time, he was an avid gardener and ham operator. Bill was a loving father and husband to Velora, his deceased wife of 60 years and much loved by his family for his calm presence and wry humor.

Bill is survived by 2 daughters, Mary Nelson Field of Wilmington, MA and Karen (Gary) VanDoren of Andover, MA; 2 grandchildren Laura (Mike) Ristau of Brussels, Belgium and Mark VanDoren of Andover, MA; 2 great grandchildren, David and Claire Ristau of Brussels, Belgium; and a brother, Clarence (Rose) Haugsted of Ames.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Velora on March 16, 2002, 3 sisters, Velda Haugsted on June 25, 2006, Beulah McConnell, and Hazel Jacobson.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

A memorial fund has been established in Bill's name for the First United Methodist Church in Nevada.

Chet Ryan Mortuary and Cremation Service was entrusted with Bill's arrangements.
