March 30, 1917-June 20, 2007

Lenore Mildred Nordyke-Knapp, of Farmington, N.M., went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Wednesday, June 20. At her request, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, at Harvest Vineyard Church, 1627 S. High Ave., in Ames, and Wednesday, July 25, in Rio Rancho, N.M. Internment will be in Arlington Cemetery near Villisca in Montgomery County, beside her husband, Max.

Lenore Mildred Nordyke-Knapp was born March 30, 1917, in Swea City, to S.H. and Helen Leland. She graduated from Ames High School in 1935 and married Max Nordyke in 1938. They raised three sons, Judd Leland, Craig Jackson and John David.

They were self-employed in various businesses in Villisca. After moving to Ames in 1967, Nore worked at the ISU Lab until 1978 when they retired to Rio Rancho, N.M.

She was a devoted wife, mother, avid golfer and a professional dance instructor. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, of Villisca, Grand Avenue Baptist, of Ames, First Baptist, of Rio Rancho, N.M., and P.E.O.

She is survived by three sons, Judd (Marcia), of Hatch, N.M., Craig (Ruth), of La Plata, N.M., and John (Jeanie), of Ames; one stepson, Robert Knapp, of Washington, D.C.; one stepdaughter, Linda Knapp (Maurice) Sampson, of Baltimore, Md.; seven grandchildren, Crista Nordyke and fiance Norm Long, Wendy (Buddy) Petersen, Jody (Adam) Wacker, Garrett, Aaron and Josh Nordyke, and Portia Sampson; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband of 47 years, Max; her second husband of 10 years, Richard Knapp; one brother, Glen "Buzz" Leland; one sister, Bernie Roberts; and one granddaughter, Sebrina Sampson.
