THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, July 18, 2007.

Oct. 20, 1928-July 6, 2007
David Paul Gibbs, 78, passed from this life Friday, July 6, at the home of his son, Kelly Gibbs, in Las Vegas, where he and his wife were making their home. The cause of death was cancer and previous health problems.

David Paul Gibbs was born Oct. 20, 1928, in Ames, at 301 S. Russell Ave., and later lived at 3115 Ellis St., from 1930 to 1939, and then at 1006 Douglas Ave. He was born 20 minutes before his twin sister, Nina Pauline. (The doctor, Dr. G.E. McFarland Sr., did not know their mom was expecting twins and was quoted as saying, "My God, there's another one!") "The twins" were born to Edwin E. and Vida L. (McIntosh) Gibbs. Also in the family at that time were E. Earl and Lauren R. (Bud) Gibbs. Later, Myrus Jay and Margaret Ann were added to the family, when he and Pauline were seven and 13 years old.

He voluntarily entered the U.S. Army during World War II but was not sent overseas, as his older brother Earl was, who served in the South Pacific. When he returned from the service, he went to work for his father, Ed, at Gibbs Plumbing and Heating in Ames, and learned and practiced the plumbing trade.

He married Mary Lou Price, of Boone, in Northwood. They had a double wedding ceremony with their best friends, DeWayne and Debbie Tesdahl. He and Mary Lou moved to Boone where he went to work for the gas company. They had two daughters, Terri and Toni, and one son, Kelly, and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Later, they moved to California, where a number of Mary Lou's sisters lived.

He was a fun-loving young boy and grew up to be the same kind of man. He enjoyed serving his customers and leaving their homes in the best condition possible, having learned this skill and habit from his dad.

He loved the beauty of the outdoors and spending time there with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by those who loved him and by those he loved in return.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou; his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Lauren R. (Bud) and wife, Gerry Gibbs, and family; sister, Margaret Ann Glover and family; twin sister, Pauline and husband, Robert Williams, and family; and the family of Earl and Mickey Gibbs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Vida Gibbs; two brothers, Myrus and Earl; one sister-in-law, Mickey Gibbs; and three nephews, Ryan Alan Gibbs, Steven Thomas Williams and David Robert Williams.

Memorial gifts may be sent to his family at 10533 Foggy Glen St., Las Vegas, NV 89135.
