Doris L. Vaughn, 78, of the Villa del Sol in Marshalltown, died Saturday, July 7th, while in care of the Villa and the Iowa River Hospice.

Funeral services and a celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July12th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Rev. Kiboko I. Kiboko officiating. She will be laid to rest at the Graceland Cemetery at Laurel. Visitation was held at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home from 5-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Born on August 23rd, 1928, at Marshalltown, she was the daughter born to Wilfred and Alice (Wilson) Atcher. She graduated from the Marshalltown High School's Class of 1946. While in high school, she was an active drum major and a State Champion baton twirler.

On January 2nd, 1948, she was united in marriage to Johnnie Franklin Vaughn in Topeka, Kansas. They made their home at Marshalltown, Colo and Laurel. Mrs. Vaughn was a full-time homemaker and mom. She will be fondly remembered as a loving mother and grandmother who treasured her family, enjoyed gardening, watching Disney on Sunday nights with a bowl of popcorn with the kids and loved Billy Graham. Holiday's and Sundays were always special at her house, especially with her pies and meals. She will be greatly missed by many.

Left to celebrate her life are her nine sons and three daughters: Donnell (Linda) Vaughn of Des Moines, Rodney (Joanne) Vaughn of Salt Lake City, Utah, Janell Runner of Marshalltown, Ronda Vaughn of Margate, Florida, Randy (Cindy) Vaughn of Marshalltown, Rick Vaughn of New Providence, Tim (Becky) Vaughn of Marshalltown, Kevin (Traci) Vaughn of Marshalltown, Douglas (Lisa) Vaughn of Nevada, Iowa, Dennis (Chris) Vaughn of Colo, Iowa, Daniel (Becky) Vaughn of Nevada and Joanie (Bob) Jamison of Colo, 29 precious grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and a host of friends.

In death she has rejoined her parents, husband, grandson Christopher John and a brother and sister who died at birth.
