Robert Dan Hickman died Tuesday, July 3, at Mission Hospital in Mission, Texas. The body was cremated, and the cremains will be buried in Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. No services are planned.
Robert Dan Hickman was born May 3, 1922, in Mount Vernon, Mo., to Truman Henry Hickman and Amanda Ann Ella Botts. He joined the U.S. Army in 1940 and served five years in World War II in Europe. He married Marion Bernice Gunderson May 3, 1946, in Pasadena, Calif. He worked as a Helms Bakery salesman in Torrance, Calif., from 1953 to 1969. He worked as a sales manager for Capp Homes in Sacramento, Calif., a salesman for Gunderson Homes in Waconia, Minn., and owned his own homebuilding company, West Coast Homes, in Rocklin, Calif. He and Marion retired in 1979 and moved to Colo in 1983. They lived in Colo and then Ames until 1997, when they moved to Mission.
He is survived by his wife, Marion, of Mission; one daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Roger Baer, of Ames; one granddaughter, Eldree Elizabeth Baer, of Des Moines; one grandson, Eric Anson Baer and wife, Laura, and two great-grandsons, Tucker Joshua Baer and Cole Robert Baer, all of Boulder, Colo.
He loved his family and his country, and we will miss him greatly.
Memorials may be given to Colo Fire Department or Colo Public Library in Colo.
