March 30, 1920-June 13, 2007

John Shirley Lowenberg, 87, of Ames, died Wednesday, June 13, at home. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 30 at Collegiate Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Whit Malone officiating. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

John Shirley Lowenberg was born March 30, 1920, in Donnellson, to John V. and Delight Laura (Krehbiel) Lowenberg. He received a bachelor of science degree from Iowa State University. He was farm manager and appraiser for Doane Agriculture Service for 27 Years. He also served as president of The Iowa Chapter of American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers.

He married Patricia Ann Kracht, and she preceded him in death in 1991. He married Kathleen Schilf Oulman in 1994.

He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific and in Kodiak, Alaska. He was a member of the Kiwanis Golden K, Order of The Knoll, Heartland Songbirds, Hearth and Heather and Collegiate Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, mushrooming, beekeeping, monitoring his bluebird trail and volunteering in several community activities

He is survived by include his wife, Kathleen Oulman, of Ames; son, Mark Alan (Jody) Lowenberg, of Newton; daughter, Michelle (Michael) Oulman McGettrick, of Wichita, Kan.; son, Grant (Roxanne) Oulman, of Walnut Creek, Calif.; brother, Richard (Lois) Lowenberg, of Iowa City; and four grandchildren, Alexandra, Elizabeth and Aubrey McGettrick and Hadley Oulman.

He was preceded in death byparents; his first wife, Patricia; and two sisters, Genevieve and Lucille.

Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 292-2273, is in charge of the arrangements.
