Doris L. Rhodes, 85, of Zearing, Iowa died June 7, 2007 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa of heart failure.
Funeral services were held Monday at the Zearing Christian Church in Zearing. Burial was at the Warren Township Cemetery in McCallsburg. Fredregill Funeral Home, in Zearing, handled arrangements.
Doris was born May 17, 1922 in Muncie, Indiana to Virgil Bowlin and Loyce E. (Bowlin) Ruckman. She graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1941. She married Merrill Rhodes on April 26, 1941 in Chillicothe, Missouri. Doris was a homemaker her entire life in the St. Anthony and Zearing areas.
She was a member of the Zearing Christian Church and served as a boardmember of Colonial Manor in Zearing.
Doris' greatest love was her family. She also enjoyed cooking, mowing the yard, gardening, challenging her grandchildren to a card game, sharing a good joke and driving the tractor to help Merrill and Byron on the farm. She was always ready with a home-cooked meal, a listening ear and a warm hug for whoever stopped by. Doris will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by three children: son Byron (Sandy) Rhodes of Zearing, daughter Marla Rhodes of Zearing and daughter DeAnna (Bob) Overman of Adel; five grandchildren, Brett Rhodes, Blake Rhodes, Shauna Callaway, Lynette Wineland, Chad Overman and 15 great-grandchildren, as well as a half brother Tom Bowlin of San Diego, California.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband Merrill, her parents and an infant sister Vivian.
