Eldon "Butch" Howell, 57, of Waukee died on Friday, May 4 at the Kavanagh House in Des Moines. Memorial services were held Wednesday, May 9, at the Memorial Lutheran Church, 701 11th Street, Nevada.

Butch was born on January 19, 1950 in Ames to Harold Wayne and Norma Helen (Dueland) Howell. He was a 1968 graduate of Nevada High School. Butch received a B.A. degree from Graceland College in Lamoni. On June 9, 1974, he married Sharon Thompson in Nevada. Butch was a production supervisor at Donnelley Marketing in Nevada for 10 years. He also served as a health care administrator in Centerville and Knoxville. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Ankeny, Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, Rotary and Lions Club. Butch loved spending time with his grandchildren, collecting John Deere toy tractors, listening to country music and was an avid John Wayne fan.

Butch is survived by his wife, Sharon Howell of Waukee; 2 sons, Matthew (Kristel) Howell and Joshua Howell, both of Waukee; a daughter, Rachael (Ayron) Duff of West Des Moines; 2 grandchildren, Gabriella Howell and Kaegan Howell; a brother Dennis Howell of Ames; an uncle and aunt, Tilmer and Leta Dueland of Des Moines; and his dog, Max.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law Helen Thompson, and several aunts and uncles.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

Chet Ryan Mortuary was entrusted with Butch's arrangements.
