Herman Franklin Thompson, 83, died Saturday, Feb. 17, at Green Hills Health Care Center in Ames. Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 23, at Luginbuel Chapel in Prairie Grove, Ark. Burial will be in Prairie Grove Cemetery.
Herman Franklin Thompson was born Oct. 6, 1923, in Prairie Grove, Ark., the son of Mack Franklin and Julia Zellner Thompson. He attended high school in Lawrenceville, Ill., and graduated as valedictorian. He also attended the University of Illinois, where he graduated magna cum laude. After serving in both the European and Pacific theaters in the U.S. Army during World War II, he obtained his law degree from Columbia University. He served as counsel for General Electric Pension Trust until he retired in 1984.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; one son, Mark Franklin Thompson, of Winter Haven, Fla.; one daughter, Pamela Caviness-Dunn, of Ames; and three grandchildren, Sean F. Fowler, Evan B. Thompson and Morgan B. Dunn; as well as a stepson, James Brew, of Denver, Colo.; and one niece, Julanne Houck of Rogers, Ark.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Beverley.
Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 22, at Luginbuel Chapel in Prairie Grove, Ark.
