Evelyn Alder, 89, of Maxwell, died Monday, Feb. 12, at Story County Long Term Care in Nevada, of complications of Alzheimer's disease and pneumonia. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, at Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell. Burial will be in Peoria Cemetery near Maxwell.
Evelyn Alder was born Sept. 14, 1917, in Good Thunder, Minn., the daughter of Edward and Hulda (Finley) Stebbins. They moved to Maxwell and she lived there until 2002 when she moved into Story County Long Term Care. She married Earl Alder Sept. 14, 1935. He preceded her in death in 1975. She was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting and playing cards. She was a member of Farrar United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Mae Marie (Ken) Allen, of Maxwell; two grandchildren, Theresa Allen and Nicholas Allen; one great-grandson, Erik Allen; and five sisters, Maxine Viers, of Maxwell, Doris Canney, of Maxwell, Leona Pihl, of Augusta, Wis., Dorothy (Earnest) Pihl, of Eau Claire, Wis., and Opal (Jim) Geesaman, of Waukee.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Mary Helen Alder; two brothers, Finley Stebbins and Lester "Bud" Stebbins; and two sisters, Hazel Hurst and Elsie Garner.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, at Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell is in charge of arrangements.
