He received his basic training at Fort Des Moines before being sent to India. He was discharged on Jan. 7, 1946, at Fort Sheridan, Ill. Upon his return from the service he began working for the Story County Maintenance Department. On April 22, 1950, he was united in marriage to Helen Langland. They settled in Nevada until 1960 when they moved to Ames where Loren lived out the remainder of his life. Loren was an active member of the Collegiate Presbyterian Church in Ames. He was always a willing helper to all those he met. His pastime was dancing. He and his wife Helen loved dancing and socializing with their friends at Lake Robbins and Stratford. His favorite dance was the waltz and his favorite song "The Waltz of the Angels."
