THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, January 20, 2007.

J. Marvin Skadberg, 79, of Ames, died Friday, Jan. 12, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.

Marvin Skadberg was born Dec. 6, 1927, in Carrington, N.D., the son of John and Mamie (Stokes) Skadberg. He married Marvel Neil on Feb. 9, 1951, in Carrington, N.D. Marvel preceded Marvin in death Aug. 21, 2004.

He served in the U.S. Air Force. He was an Extension economist with special interest in the cattle and hog futures markets and retired in the mid 1980s. He was a member of the Unitarian Universalists Fellowship of Ames, Kiwanis and the Epsilon Sigma Phi fraternity of economists. He enjoyed golfing, cross-country skiing, mall walking and traveling.

He is survived by one daughter, Kari Skadberg, of Omaha; two sons, Mark Skadberg, of Ames, and Andrew Skadberg, of Bryan, Texas; three grandchildren, Devon Skadberg, Joshua Skadberg and Serena Skadberg; two brothers, Kermit Skadberg, of Gold Canyon, Ariz., and Jimmie Skadberg, of Cathay, N.D.; three sisters, Sonja Shannon, of Rapid City, S.D., Arlys Harman, of Carrington, N.D., and Judy Semmens, of Mayville, N.D.; and one sister-in-law, Harriet and Gerald Pierson, of Fargo, N.D.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two brothers, Jerold and Stanley.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, at Unitarian Universalists Fellowship of Ames.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Iowa State Foundation in memory of Marvin and Marvel Skadberg, the Senior Center of Ames or to Unitarian Universalists Fellowship of Ames Foundation.

Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory of Nevada is in charge of arrangements.
