THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, January 20, 2007.

Luther Leon Kiser, loving husband, inspiring father and dedicated educator died Saturday, Jan. 20, at Israel Family Hospice House. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, at Collegiate Presbyterian Church. A private family burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery prior to the service.

Luther Leon Kiser was born Aug. 30, 1931, in Eldorado, Kan., to Luther Levi and Evelyn (Cousland) Kiser. He graduated from Southwestern College in Kansas with a degree in education and speech. He received a master's degree in education administration at Kansas University and his Ed.D from Missouri University.

He came to Ames in 1970 as the director of curriculum and instruction. He retired from the Ames Community School District in 1993 as associate superintendent.

He lived a lifetime of service to others as an innovative leader in education for the Ames School District as well as in the community, serving in many capacities. He was a longtime track official for Ames and Iowa State University. He was a past president of Kiwanis. His current involvements included board of directors for Heartland Senior Service, chairman for city of Ames Committee of the Arts and board of director for Ames Golf and Country Club.

He is survived by two sons, Scott (Susan) Kiser, of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Greg (Theresa) Kiser, of Buchanan Dam, Texas; one sister, Liz (Kiser) VanLoenen, of Vogue, Kan.; his wife, Barbara Mudd, of Ames, and her two children Robert (Terri) Mudd, of Independence, and Mary Anne (Kent) Hagen, of Kelley; and seven grandchildren, Anna and Casey Tyler; Joseph and Alexis Kiser; Kylee, Madisen and Reece Kiser.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Naomi; one son, Martin; and one daughter, Christina.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, at Adams Funeral Home with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the Heartland Senior Services Building Fund., 205 S. Walnut, Ames, IA, 50010.
