West Liberty, Iowa - Howard D. Shaw, 95, died Saturday January 6, 2007 at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty following an extended illness.
Funeral services were held Tuesday January 9, 2007 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty with Rev. DeLane Wright officiating. Burial was in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty. Memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice.
Howard was born December 27, 1911 in Redding, Iowa the son of Hugh and Mary Jennings Shaw. He was a graduate of Redding High School in 1931. On April 16, 1933 he was united in marriage to Gladys Polley in Adel, Iowa. They had farmed in Johnson and Muscatine Counties before retiring in West Liberty. Following his retirement Howard worked for the West Liberty School System as a custodian in the Nichols Building.
He was a member of the West Liberty United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one son: Kenneth (Carolyn) Shaw of Nevada, Iowa. Two daughters: Ann Bristol of Iowa City and Donna (John) Reichardt of Solon. 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Gladys, 5 brothers: Vernice, James, Lyle, Marion, and Lewis, 3 sisters: Reva Uglow, Berle Knapp and Dorothea Freel, and a son-in-law: Richard.
