Marjorie L. Whitehead, 74, of Nevada, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, at home. Funeral services are pending with Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada.

Feb. 16, 1932-Jan. 10, 2007Marjorie Lurene Whitehead, 74, of Nevada, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, at home of leukemia, which developed due to medication administered to fight her lung and liver cancer. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ, with Pastor Brice Hughes officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens in rural Nevada.
Marjorie Lurene Whitehead was born Feb. 16, 1932, in Howard County, to Everett L. and Euphemie E. (Frank) Mitchell. She married Walter G. Whitehead Aug. 14, 1950, at Little Brown Church in Nashua. She had been employed at Donnelley's, Nevada Poultry and Story County Hospital. She retired from 3M Company in Ames on Nov. 1, 1993. She was a member of First Christian Church and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 48. She enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling, going to her grandchildren's sporting events and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes.

She is survived by two daughters, Carol (Scott "Skinny") Thompson, of Nevada, and Sheila (Rick) Erickson, of McCallsburg; one son, Lowell "Ernie" (Lori) Whitehead, of Nevada; five brothers, Elmer (Marion) Mitchell, Harold (Vi) Mitchell, Clarence (Ginny) Mitchell, Frank (Nora) Mitchell and Chester (Robin) Mitchell, all of Nevada; one sister, Evelyn Jacobson, of Ames; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter on March 6, 2000; one son, Joel Craig on Dec. 20, 2005; and one brother, Robert "Bud" Mitchell in 1988.
A memorial fund has been established.
Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada is in charge of arrangements.
