May 10, 1913 - Dec. 27, 2006Rosa Ellen York, 93, of Ames, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, at Riverside Manor in Ames. A visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m., with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 2, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Marshalltown.
Rosa Ellen York was born May 10, 1913, in Marshalltown, to Austin and Elna Ash. She was a very talented seamstress and worked at Collegiate Manufacturing. She also was a nurse aide at Mary Greeley Hospital for a number of years. She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and flowers until her health failed four years ago.
She is survived by two daughters, Nancyne (Gary) Iverson and Jean L. Dickerson, both of Boone; two sons, Bently (Becky) York, of Cedar Rapids, and Larry (Teresa) Ostrem, of Albuquerque, N.M.; eight grandchildren, Kevin, Kathy, Russ, Julie, Ben, Wes, Alex and Claire; two step-grandchildren, Nate and Nicole; four great-grandchildren, Krista, Derick, Kody and Austin; one brother, Herbert Ash, of Marshalltown; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, three sisters and three brothers.
