Oct. 31, 1928-Dec. 21, 2006Kenneth R. Jones, 78, of Nevada and formerly of Zearing, died Thursday, Dec. 21, at home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, at Nevada First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Burial will be in Lincoln Township Cemetery in Zearing.
Kenneth R. Jones was born Oct. 31, 1928, in State Center, the son of Brantley and Cecil (Long) Jones. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a farmer in the Zearing area until he retired in 1995 due to health reasons. He married Isabelle Carmody April 19, 1949, in Zearing. He was a member of Nevada First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He was a former member of the Story County Planning and Zoning Commission, former president of the NESCO School Board, former Lincoln Township Trustee, past precinct chairperson of the Democratic Party of Lincoln Township and was past president of the local chapter of the National Farmers Organization.
He is survived by his wife, Isabelle, of Nevada; two daughters and sons-in-law: Deborah and Thomas Lord, of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Deanne and Mark Skeens, of Lakeville, Minn.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Veva Everson, of Hubbard, Helen Settle, of Marshalltown, and Audrey Norman, of Union.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Donna, in infancy; and two brothers, Leo Jones and Wayne Jones.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada.
Memorials may be made to the Homeward Hospice and to the Good Samaritan Fund.Bacon Funeral Home of Nevada is in charge of arrangements.
