TRI COUNTY TIMES, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, December 14, 2006.

Orval Parr Byrd, 93, of Centerville, died Dec. 5, at the Golden Age Care Center.

He was born May 10, 1913. He moved to Huxley in 1950 and then to Centerville in 2004. He was a depot agent for the Milwaukee Railroad, retiring in 1978. He served in the U.S. Army where he was a 1st lieutenant.

On Jan. 1, 1944, Orval married Elaine Davis. He enjoyed ushering at church for 15 years.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine of Centerville; four children, Orval Byrd of Des Moines, Lyle Byrd of London, England, Richard (Lena) Byrd of Hawaii and Marilyn Foster (Jerry) of Centerville; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Visitation was 6-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church in Huxley with Pastor Tom Hilger officiating. Burial was in the Fjeldberg Cemetery. Adams Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
