THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, December 7, 2006.

Marna Cole Milliken
March 3, 1935-Dec. 4, 2006

Marna Cole Milliken, 71, formerly of Ames, died peacefully of natural causes Monday, Dec. 4, at Casa de la Luz Hospice, in Tucson, Ariz. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, at Calvary United Methodist Church in Ames, with Pastor Lynn Elrod officiating. A lunch buffet will be afterward for family and friends at the Gateway Hotel.

Marna Cole was born March 3, 1935, in Ames, to Herman and Bernice Cole. She married Red Milliken Jan. 19, 1953. She graced us with her style and enthusiasm for life. She was a "free spirit" who wasn't afraid to try anything, including sailing in the Prince William Sound and white water rafting on the Nenana River in Alaska. She was an excellent seamstress and knitter, had a passion for art and loved ice-skating, swimming, waterskiing, scuba diving, and spending time at her favorite lake in Minnesota. She was as strong as she was gentle; loving and nurturing to all living things in which she was entrusted. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She leaves her four children, three sons, Scott Milliken, of Healy, Alaska, Joe Milliken, of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Cole Milliken, of Tucson, Ariz., and one daughter, Melody Milliken, of Anchorage, Alaska; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Salle Rice, of Butte, Mont.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Red Milliken; her parents; and one sister, Nance McMinimee.

Memorials can be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Adams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
