THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Sunday, December 3, 2006.
Mildred Clara Cheek, 87, of Nevada, died Friday, Dec. 1, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, at First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ, with Pastor Brice Hughes officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memory Gardens in rural Nevada.
Mildred was born Oct. 31, 1919, in Cromwell to Ralph and Effie (Kilgore) Bacon. She was a 1936 graduate of Tingley High School. She married Roy Elvin Cheek Feb. 29, 1939, in Abilene, Kan. She and Roy lived in Creston from 1968-88 and moved back to Nevada in 1989. She was a member of First Christian Church. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and camping with her grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Jerry (Linda) Cheek, of Nevada, and Dee (Sandra) Cheek, of Ames; five grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy, on Aug. 24, 1994; and one sister, Helen Baker, in 1966.
A memorial fund has been established in Mildred's name for First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ.
