Kathryn R. Goodwin, 73, of Ames, died Monday, Nov. 27, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at Body of Christ Christian Worship Center, 114 Fifth St., in Ames, with Pastor Toran C. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Kathryn R. Goodwin was born Aug. 25, 1933, in Kansas City, Mo., to Ross A. and Nadine (King) Evans Sr. She attended the University of Missouri in Kansas City, then Ohio State. She was a 1983 graduate of Iowa State University with a bachelor of science degree in biochemistry, and worked as a microbiologist at the National Animal Disease Center until she retired in 2003.

Kathryn loved her children and grandchildren. She loved to read, enjoyed plants and flowers and track meets.

She is survived by two sons, Matthew (LaTosca) Goodwin Sr., of Ames, and Malcolm Goodwin, of Des Moines; four grandchildren, Matthew II, Lexington, Maxwell and Savannah Goodwin; one sister, Betty (Robert) Hyde, of Clive; and two brothers, Ross A. Evans Jr., of Ames, and Larry Evans, of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 1, at Adams Funeral Home.
