Jan. 18, 1919-Nov. 27, 2006

Rose Hallihan Miller, 87, of Nevada, died Monday, Nov. 27, at Story County Medical Center Long Term Care. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada, followed by a private memorial service at 7 p.m., with the Rev. Thomas Niehof officiating. Burial will be Friday, Nov. 28, in Fairlawn Cemetery in Decatur, Ill.

Rose Hallihan Miller was born Jan. 18, 1919, in Sidell, Ill., the daughter of Leroy and Mabel (Long) Black. She graduated from Decatur High School in Decatur, Ill., in 1937. She worked for many years as the receptionist and secretary to the commanding colonel at the Decatur Signal Depot facility, later as a school secretary and teacher's aide, then customer service for Bassett Furniture in Newton, N.C. She dedicated her life to loving her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Michael F. D. Miller, of Nevada, whom she married June 24, 1979; one sister, Lorraine Sebok, of Prescott, Ariz.; one daughter, Dana Biehler, of Claremont, N.C.; one son, Jim (Trish) Hallihan, of Ames; grandchildren, Dr. Darren (Meredith) Biehler, of Davidson, N.C., Devin (Carrie) Biehler, of Statesville, N.C., Jennifer (Mark) Howieson, of Urbandale, Kelly (Ryan) Wyllie, of Urbandale, and Danny Hallihan, of Ames; one stepdaughter, Nancy (Michael) Mitchell, of Sioux City; and four great-grandchildren, Jacob and Jonah Biehler, of Statesville, N.C., and Mia and Ellery Biehler, of Davidson, N.C.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; three sisters; and her first husband of 33 years, J. Dan Hallihan, who died Oct. 13, 1972.

The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff of SCMC Long Term Care for their loving and compassionate care for Rosie. Their efforts are deeply appreciated and will always be remembered by her family.
