Robert L. Kelso, 85, of Nevada and formerly of Ames, died Saturday, Nov. 18, at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, at Adams Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Robert L. Kelso was born Feb. 28, 1921, in Ames, to John and Nettie (Hubbert) Kelso. He was a graduate of Ames High School and lifetime Ames resident. He married Dorothy DeFore Jan. 1, 1941, in Ames. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was chief electrical foreman for the city of Ames, retiring in 1986. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 37 and served on the board of Ames City Employees Credit Union. He also was a member of ISU Steamfitter Local 234 and the International Union of Operating Engineers.

He is survived by three sons, Richard (Pat) Kelso, of Austin, Texas, David (Rose) Kelso, of Ames, and Michael (Pat) Kelso, of Ames; four daughters, Ann (Dale) Culver, of Ames, Robin (Lee) Robinson, of Fort Myers, Fla., Kimberly (Merv) Bettis, of Ames, and Kay (Rick) Anderson, of Loveland, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy in 2002; one brother, John; and one grandson, Jason.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 tonight at Adams Funeral Home.

Memorial donations may be made to Ames Veterans Memorial.
