Bernard (Bernie) O. Randol, 73, of Ames, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, at home. A memorial service will be at noon Saturday, Nov. 18, at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Ames.

Bernie Randol was born Dec. 7, 1932, in Knoxville, to Bernard P. and Dorothy Randol. He graduated from Knoxville High School and served four years in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. In 1953, he married Arla B. Meier and attended the University of Iowa, earning a bachelor's degree in business followed a CPA. He then worked as a certified public accountant in Cedar Rapids, which led to his next positions as internal auditor, controller and university secretary at Iowa State University from 1963 until he retired in 1990. He was a member of Pheasants Forever, the American Legion, Lions Club and Izaak Walton League. After he retired, he was involved with community volunteer work.

He is survived by his three children, Lori (Peter) Arnesen, of Woodbury, Minn., Matt Randol, of Ames, and Cindy (Mark) Hadaway, of Story City; and five grandchildren, Kristin, Sarah and Erica Arnesen, of Woodbury, Minn., and Lauren and Ryan Hadaway, of Story City. He also is survived by one brother, Richard (Donna) Randol, of Knoxville; one sister, Vida (Art) Peirce, of Kokomo, Ind., as well as aunts, uncles and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Pheasants Forever or Ames Veterans Memorial.
