Carole Lynn O'Leary

Carole Lynn O'Leary, 59, of Nevada, Iowa, a former resident of Ridgefield, Connecticut, died of ALS on Monday, November 6, 2006 at her home in Nevada. Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, November 9 at the Colo United Methodist Church with Pastor James Roth officiating. Burial will follow in the Colo Cemetery.

Carole was born on December 16, 1946 in Marshalltown, Iowa to Elmer T. and Lois I. (Luing) Cerka. She was a Colo High School graduate. Carole received her B.S. degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1968 and a M.A. degree from the College of New Rochelle, New York. On November 25, 1998, she married John "Jack" O'Leary, a Ridgefield bank manager, in Wethersfield, Connecticut. Carole was a teacher and most recently Vice President of the Academic Resource Center for Berkeley College in White Plains, NY. She was a member of the Colo United Methodist Church and the GFWC. Carole was an avid reader and enjoyed playing the piano, square dancing, cooking and watching the Hawkeyes.

Carole is survived by her husband Jack O'Leary of Nevada; Her mother, Lois Cerka of Colo; A son, Michael Burke of Mt. Kisco, NY; A daughter, Cara Burke of Nevada; 2 step sons, John O'Leary, IV and Brian O'Leary, both of Wethersfield, CT; 4 brothers, Paul Cerka, Fred (Dorothy) Cerka, John (Donna) Cerka, all of Colo and David (Bonnie) Cerka of Marshalltown.

Carole was preceded in death by her father in 1990 and her grandparents.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, November 8 at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth Street in Nevada, IA.

A memorial fund has been established.
