THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, November 9, 2006.

Donald Grant Woolley
Dec. 12, 1925-Nov. 5, 2006

Donald Grant Woolley, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, died peacefully Sunday, Nov. 5, at home in Bountiful, Utah, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10, at Mueller Park Stake Center, 1800 South Mueller Park Road, Bountiful, Utah. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery.

Donald Grant Woolley was born Dec. 12, 1925 in Magrath, Alberta, Canada, the son of Grant Goddard and Hazel Karren Woolley. Dad and Mom both served as missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1945-47. Dad served in the Canadian Mission (Toronto, Ontario) and Mom served in the Southern California Mission. Two weeks after returning, they were married in the Cardston Alberta LDS Temple.

Dad graduated from Utah State University with bachelor's and master's degrees in agronomy before moving his young family to Ames to pursue a Ph.D. at Iowa State University. After completing his education, he returned to Canada and joined a government agriculture research project in Alberta from 1960 to 1963.

In 1963, he accepted a position at ISU as full professor, where he enjoyed teaching for 35 years. A sabbatical leave from the university in 1974 took him to Thailand where he was instrumental in designing a new agricultural college in Bangkok for World Bank.

Dad served in many civic and religious positions, such as scoutmaster and parks and recreation board chairman. He served as president of the Central Iowa District, president of the Des Moines Iowa Stake, regional representative for the Independence, Wichita, Winter Quarters, St. Louis, Little Rock, Minneapolis, Milwaukee and Des Moines Regions. He was blessed through his work as Patriarch in the Des Moines Iowa and Bountiful Mueller Park Stakes. He performed numerous marriages in the temple, and from 1990 to 1995, he served as a counselor in two presidencies at the Chicago Temple and recently for three years in the Bountiful Temple Presidency.

Dad loved to talk to everyone he encountered. He never met a stranger, and he never forgot a name. We will miss his devout testimony and love for his Savior, his advice, counsel and blessings.

He left a legacy of strong family unity including, Norma, his wife of 59 years, and his five children, Jane (Stephen) Harward, of Springville, Wayne (Julia), of Rochester, Minn., Mary Ellen (Timothy) Ross, of Riverton, David, of Springville, and Patricia (Joe) Gannaway, of Rexburg, Idaho; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Gaylia Woolley, of Bountiful, and Carol (William) Rich, of Logan, Utah.

Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to services Friday, Nov. 10, at the church.
