Carole Lynn O'Leary, 59, of Nevada and formerly of Ridgefield, Conn., died of ALS Monday, Nov. 6, at home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, at Colo United Methodist Church with Pastor James Roth officiating. Burial will be in Colo Cemetery.

Carole Lynn O'Leary was born Dec. 16, 1946, in Marshalltown, to Elmer T. and Lois I. (Luing) Cerka. She was a Colo High School graduate. She received a bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1968 and a master's degree from the College of New Rochelle, N.Y. She married John "Jack" O'Leary, a Ridgefield bank manager, Nov. 25, 1998, in Wethersfield, Conn.

She was a teacher and most recently vice president of the Academic Resource Center for Berkeley College in White Plains, N.Y. She was a member of Colo United Methodist Church and the GFWC. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing the piano, square dancing, cooking and watching the Hawkeyes.

She is survived by her husband, Jack O'Leary, of Nevada; her mother, Lois Cerka, of Colo; one son, Michael Burke, of Mount Kisco, N.Y.; one daughter, Cara Burke, of Nevada; two stepsons, John O'Leary IV and Brian O'Leary, both of Wethersfield, Conn.; and four brothers, Paul Cerka, Fred (Dorothy) Cerka, John (Donna) Cerka, all of Colo, and David (Bonnie) Cerka of Marshalltown.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1990 and her grandparents.

Visitation with the family present will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth St., in Nevada.

A memorial fund has been established.
