THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, October 7, 2006.
Richard Earl Zenor, 75, of Slater, passed away peacefully in his sleep Friday, Oct. 6, at the Madrid Home in Madrid.
He was born March 13, 1931, in Slater, the son of Frank Ivan and Agnes Matilda (Severson) Zenor. He was united in marriage to Helen Turpin on July 23, 1950, in Ames. Richard was a lifetime resident of Slater, aside from four years the couple lived in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Richard worked as a maintenance engineer for Iowa Lutheran Hospital for 20 years before his retirement in 1993.
He was a 32 degree Mason and 50-year member of the Ames Masonic Lodge 249, Des Moines Scottish Rite of Free Masonry and the Polk City Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star 361.
He served on the Slater City Council, the Planning and Zoning Committee and the committee responsible for the original municipal pool. An active church member, Richard was instrumental in building the new United Methodist Church of Slater. He enjoyed building repair, remodeling and yard work.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Zenor, of Slater; one son, Michael (Wanda) Zenor, of Slater; three daughters, Ruth (Pete) Evans, of Slater, Sharon (Chuck) Giebel, of Sterling, Colo., and Lois (Mike) Boyd, of Ankeny; one sister, Dorothy Waltz, of Slater; seven grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren; and other family and friends that loved and will miss him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Gayetta Wood.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, at Soderstrum Riis Funeral Home, 101 Benton St., Slater.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9, at the United Methodist Church of Slater, with the Rev. Emily Allen officiating.
Richard's request was that his body be cremated following services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Madrid Home.
Soderstrom-Riis Funeral Home, Slater, handled the arrangements.
