Renee Johns

Williamsburg - Renee Linette Johns was born January 9, 1955 in De Witt, Iowa, the daughter of Leon and Audrey (Claeys) Boyer. She graduated from De Witt High School in 1973, attended Grandview College in Des Moines where she competed nationally in gymnastics and graduated from Central College in Pella . She later received her masters from the University of Iowa. Renee was united in marriage to Steven Johns on July 23, 1983 in Jefferson, Iowa. To this marriage they were blessed with two children. Renee was formerly employed as a teacher at Jefferson, Ames, Amana, HLV and Williamsburg Community School, as a special education teacher and coach. Renee died Monday, October 2, 2006 at her home after complications of ALS at the age of 51 years, 8 months and 23 days.

She is survived by her husband Steve of Williamsburg; a son: Brian Johns and a daughter: Stacia Johns both attending the University Of Iowa in Iowa City; two brothers: Blake Boyer of Cedar Rapids and Mike Orbin of Houston, Texas; two sister: Faith Anderson of Cedar Rapids and Dawn Ruggeberg of Montana. Renee was preceded in death by her parents.

Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am Friday, October 6, 2006 at the Mary Welsh Elementary School in Williamsburg. Rev. James Stewart will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday from 3 to 8 PM at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com under obituaries.
