Raymond H. Evans, 69, of Kelley, died at home Saturday, Sept. 30, of congestive heart failure. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. in Walnut Grove Cemetery on 282nd Street, east of U.S. Highway 69 near Kelley.Raymond was born Oct. 7, 1936, in Coon Rapids, to Homer and Anna (Vande Voorde) Evans. He graduated from Ames High School in 1955. He married Carolyn Pentico Sept. 17, 1960.
He owned and operated Evans Upholstery and Refrigeration for 42 years on East Lincoln Way in Ames. Among his loves and passions was his devotion to family, grandchildren, restoring antiques, farming and raising horses, cattle and mules.
He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Mid Iowa Antiques Club and Triple G square dancers club.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Carolyn Evans, of Kelley; five daughters, Mary (Dan) Ruhnke, of Boone, Linda (James) Sills, of Kelley, Toni (Paul) Hodnefield, of Hubbard, Peggy (Cole) O'Donnell, of Algona, and Patricia Mesecher, of Ames; 14 grandchildren; two sisters, Delores Caldbeck, of West Des Moines, and Camilla (Dick) Coy, of Parkersburg; and three brothers, Lawrence (Shirley) Evans, of Ames, Richard (Norma) Evans, of Story City, and Gregory (Pam) Evans, of Jacksonville, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Kenny.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 tonight at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for distribution to several of the organizations Raymond belonged to.
