Clark S. Helland

Clark S. Helland, 84, of Huxley, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, at the Madrid Nursing Home.

He was born in Huxley on Sept. 13, 1922, the son of Sanford and Clara (Torgerson) Helland. He was a lifetime resident of Huxley, where he was a farmer until he retired in 1992. He also served two years with the U.S. Army.

Clark married Janice Saunier in Bay City, Mich., on Aug. 18, 1951. Clark was a member of Fjeldberg Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife Janice of Huxley; two sons, Mike (Juli) and Charles Helland, both of Huxley; one daughter, Phyllis (Ray Morse) Helland of Eugene, Ore.; two sisters, Ivy Juon of Alleman and Marie Knappe of Cedar Rapids; and six grandsons, Dustin, Ryan, Erik (Sandi), Nick (Cara), Jeremy and Andrew.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Seerley; and one sister, Doris.

Visitation was Friday, Sept. 22, from 5-7 p.m. at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church in Huxley. Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 23, at 10 a.m. at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church in Huxley with the Rev. Tom Hilger officiating. Burial was in the Fjeldberg Church Cemetery. Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home in Slater was in charge of the arrangements.
