THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, September 14, 2006.

Freda L. Freel, 92, of Ames, died Monday, Sept. 11, at Israel Family Hospice in Ames. Her family will have a private funeral service. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

She was born Nov. 11, 1913, in Nevada, to Karl and Lena Paulson. Karl died when she was young and she was raised by her mother and stepfather, Purley Alderman. She married Harley Darrell Freel March 19, 1929. They owned the Campus Court motel in Ames. She also was employed by Hy-Vee for 18 years.

She was a past member of Ames Golf and Country Club, Women of the Moose and the Elks.

She is survived by two daughters, Betty (Dale) McHatton, of Oregon, and JoAnn Borer, of Ames; grandchildren, Glenne and Tom Carter, of Oregon, Todd Carter, of Reno, Nev., and Jeff and Sandee Borer, of Nevada; great-grandchildren, Kyle and Joanna Carter, of Oregon, Kaci Carter, of Oregon, Justin Cook, of Reno, Nev., and Amanda Borer and Daniel Borer, of Nevada.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather; her husband, Harley Darrell "HD", in 1996; three brothers, Fred, Herman and Raymond Paulson; one sister-in-law, Edith Freel; two brothers-in-law, Walter and Wesley Freel; and one son-in-law, Edward Borer.

A public visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Israel Family Hospice House.
