Ruth Madson, 93, died Sunday, Sept. 3, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at Gilbert Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Tom Prochnow officiating. Burial will be in Story City Cemetery.Ruth Madson was born Jan. 10, 1913, in Garden City, to Rasmus and Inger (Holland) Frette. She graduated from Randall High School. She married Alvin Madson Feb. 26, 1941, in Randall. She worked at Iowa State University in the dairy department, purchasing department, as well as in the family and consumer science department. She had lived north of Ames for 50 years, and upon retirement, moved to Story City.
She enjoyed knitting and sewing, baking Scandinavian foods and participating at her church.
She is survived by one daughter, Phyllis (Jim) Athen, of Ames; one son, Rick (Jan) Madson, of Waterloo; one sister, Inger Larson, of Green Bay, Wis.; one brother, Ray Frette, of St. Louis, Mo.; five grandchildren, Debra Athen, of Scottsdale, Ariz., Lacinda (Marshall Mundt) Athen, of Madison, Wis., Cristina (Ben) Muehr, of Ankeny, Jon Madson, of Waterloo, and Dan Madson, of Waterloo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers; and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at Soderstrum Larson Funeral Home in Story City.
Adams Funeral Home of Ames is in charge of arrangements.
