In the spring of 1866 they moved to Missouri, a year later located on a farm south of Colo, Iowa, where they built a home life and family circle that commanded the respect, goodwill and love of and still bears fruit among their neighbors. Retiring from the farm in 1902 they moved to Colo, where they resided until the death of the wife, October 4, 1917. Since that time he has made his home with a daughter, Mrs. Chas. E. Fleming. His family circle was numbered by eight, six daughters and two sons. Two daughters, Mrs. Mirella Jane Smith and Mrs. Emma May Coughenour, and one son Marion Elsworth, preceded him in death. Mrs. Lillian N. Schoonover, Mrs. Mary E. Carver, Mrs. Jessie G. Fleming and Sherman D. Rinehart, of Colo, and Mrs. Arta G. Coughenour, of Maxwell, survive to remember with joy the love and …. Twelve living grandchildren and five great grandchildren and numerous other relatives have a goodly heritage to look unto. The funeral was held in the Methodist church at Colo, September 20th. Rev. V. D. Stephens-Schierholz, his pastor preached from the text, “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” Psa. 116:15. Rev. Adams, of Colo, and Rev. P. H. Schierholz, of Collins, assisted in the services. His body was carried to the grave by his six sons-in-law as was his wife’s and laid to rest by her side in the Colo cemetery.
