Irene B. Rod, 85, of Story City, died Thursday, Aug. 17, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday Aug. 21, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. Burial will be in Story City Cemetery.Irene was born May 13, 1921, in Buffalo Center, to Joseph C. and Betsy (Brekke) Anfinson. She married Myron Rod Nov. 18, 1942. He died July 8, 1993.
She was a homemaker and an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She graduated from Jewell High School in 1939 and from Beauty School and was employed for three years at a bank in Des Moines while Myron was in the service. She had lived in Story City since 1945. She enjoyed gardening, reading and playing bridge and volunteered at the Story City Senior Center, RSVP and Bethany Manor.
She is survived by one son, Steven (Pat), of Mount Pleasant; two daughters, Aletha (Boyd) Ellison, of Omaha, Neb., and Sandra (Greg) Jacobson, of Story City; six grandchildren, Kris (Jake) McKee, Chad Ellison, Amy and Emily Jacobson, Karin and Owen Rod; two great-grandchildren, Jaley and Joslyn McKee; and three sisters, Betty Kieser, of Bellvue, Neb., Francis Fear, of Jefferson, and Connie Ransom, of Modesto, Calif.; three sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Myron; an infant sister and one brother, LaVerne Anfinson.
Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City.
Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Riverside Bible Camp or Story City Historical Society.
