E. Annabelle Freel, 86, of Ames, died of natural causes Tuesday, Aug. 1, at Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. The body has been cremated and a memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, at Church of the Nazarene in Ames. Inurnment will be in Boone Memorial Gardens.She was born Feb. 20, 1920, in rural Boone County to Joseph and Hildreth (Sproul) Gustafson. She graduated from Napier High School in 1938. She married Anton Perkovich in 1944, and to this union two children were born. She married James Wesley Freel in 1956. She was a member of Nazarene Church of Ames, American Legion Auxiliary Post 37, a craft group in Boone and many civic organizations.
She was a homemaker and retired from the custodial staff at Iowa State University.
She is survived by two sons, George Perkovich, of Madrid, and Frank (Jan) Perkovich, of Boone; two step-daughters, Judy Freel, of Slater, and Jean Williams, of Marshall, Mo.; one step-son, Jim (Roxanne) Freel, of Nevada; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Randine (Keith) Shepherd, of Boone; and one sister-in-law, Eileen Gustafson, of Boone.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Wesley Freel; one granddaughter, Christina Perkovich; and one brother, Charles O. Gustafson.
A visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.
