Allen Eugene Joiner, 58, died of lung cancer Tuesday, Aug. 1, at Iowa Methodist Hospital, Des Moines. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4, at Caldwell Raddatz Funeral Home, 8201 Hickman Road, Urbandale. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, at the funeral home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Waukee Cemetery.

Al was born Jan. 10, 1948, in Ft. Dodge, to Charles and Ramona (Hansen) Joiner. He graduated from Humboldt High School in 1966 and was active in DeMolay. He also attended Iowa Central Community College for two years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1969-71 and was stationed in Germany. He worked in Humboldt at Corn Belt Power and then joined Qwest Communications as a network technician, where he was employed for 32 years. He retired July 12 due to health reasons. He enjoyed golfing and bowling. He was a member of Modifiers Car Club.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine Speer Joiner, of Des Moines; his parents, Charles and Ramona Joiner, of Humboldt; one sister, Deedee Carlson and her fiance, Randy Johnson, of Okoboji, and her daughter, Jennifer and husband, Matt Richardson, child, Charlie, all of Littleton, Colo.; one brother, John and wife Stacy, and their children, Katie and Jane, of Ames.
