The Roland Record, Roland, Story County, Iowa, May 21, 1897.
Mrs. Julia Romane Walker, widow of the late Isaac Walker, of Nevada, died at her home in that city last week. Mrs. Walker came to Story county with her father in 1854. Hence was one of the earliest pioneer settlers.
[In same issue.]
The late Mrs. Walker, who died in Nevada last week, left a will in which she bequeathed to the Ladies Cemetery Society of that city $300.00 and to the city she left a fine tract of two acres of land in the north-western portion of the city to be used as a public park. Nevada now has one of the handsomest little parks in Central Iowa, located in the sourth part of town and this last bequest will indeed give them parks to be proud of. Story county has a county seat, that as a residence town, is unexcelled. Beautiful residences, ample shade trees, well kept lawns, fine chruches and schools, inviting parks, a most excellent water and light service, in fact it is an ideal home town.
