Oct. 23, 1927-June 28, 2006
Donald D. Audlehelm, 78, of Ames, died Wednesday, June 28, at Mary Greeley Medical Center of congestive heart failure due to complications following surgery.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 3, at Napier Methodist Church with Pastor Herbert Foxworthy officiating. Burial of his ashes will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Osceola.

Don was born Oct. 23, 1927, in Osceola to John and Mary (Weeks) Audlehelm. He married the love of his life, Betty Watson, Jan. 30, 1949, in Murray. He attended Osceola High School and worked on the family dairy farm before moving to Boone. He owned his own cleaning business for several years and retired from the National Animal Disease Center after 25 years. He was working at the Hotel at Gateway Center. Don and Betty lived in Napier for 35 years where they are members of Napier Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Audlehelm, of Ames; one daughter, Jane Hogan, of Fort Dodge; one son, Jeff Audlehelm, of Carroll; grandchildren, Jennifer Harper, Sarah, Erin, Joe, Katie and Emily Hogan, and Ryan and Adam Audlehelm and Chloe; one brother, Paul (Ruth) Audlehelm and their family, of Osceola.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Dennis; one daughter, Deborah Harper; and three grandchildren, Amanda Harper, Elizabeth Hogan and Andrew Hogan.

He had a great sense of humor and was a sweet, kind and loving man. He was a hard worker and a very devoted family man who especially cherished time spent with his grandchildren. He was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames is assisting the family with arrangements.
