Floyd O. Christian, 94, of Story City, died Sunday, June 25, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames of cardiac failure. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, at Bethany Manor chapel, Story City, with the family present one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Roland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Floyd's name to Bethany Life Communities or his church.
Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City is in charge of arrangements.

Floyd O. Christian, 94, of Story City, died Sunday, June 25, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, of cardiac failure. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at Bethany Manor chapel in Story City, with the family present one hour prior. Burial will be in Roland Cemetery.
Floyd was born Sept. 12, 1911, to Olaf B. and Bertha Christian. His mother was a first-generation immigrant from Norway. He attended school in McCallsburg, graduating from high school in 1930. Following graduation, he attended Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines and was employed at Fulton Market.
He married Florence Jacobson of Roland March 18, 1939. Together they operated a farm west of Roland. She died in 1996 on their 57th wedding anniversary. In 2003, he moved to Story City.
A lifelong member of Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland, he chaired the church council and led several boards and committees. He served as president of the Roland school board. A charter member of the Kiwanis Club of Roland, he was a community service volunteer. He helped establish the Roland Museum, contributing historical artifacts and construction assistance.
He is survived by three children, Kenwood (Teresa), of Maryland Heights, Mo., Keith (Elaine), of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Timothy, of Minneapolis; one brother, Finley R. (Bobby), of Calistoga, Calif.; and sisters-in-law, Ella Thompson, of Boone, and Helen Ritland, of Story City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; four sisters and two brothers.
