The Roland Record, Roland, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, June 20, 1895.

Michael J. Johnson aged 23 years, son of Thos. R. Johnson, one of our oldest settler living just north of town, died Sunday morning of that dreaded disease, consumption, after a lingering illness of about six months. Death has been looked for by the relatives and friends for some time. Mr. Johnson ws a young man of good moral character and well liked and spoken of in this community where he was born and reared. He leaves an aged father and mother, four sisters and four brothers, besides other relatives and friends who all feel deeply the loss his untimely death has incured, dieing as he did just in the prime of his life and usefulness. The services were conducted Monday at the East church, by G. O. Paulsrud, and were witnessed by an immense concourse of mourners, relatives and friends. The entire community join with the bereaved relatives and friends in grieving for one near and dear.
