MAXWELL - Esther Mae Brown, 86, of the Hubbard Health Care Center, formerly of Maxwell, 2006 died April 25, 2006 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Esther was born November 12, 1919 at Collins, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Eva (Gardner) Swalwell. She graduated from Maxwell High School in 1938. She was united in marriage to Dwayne Brown February 15, 1939 in Melbourne, Iowa. Dwayne died September 9, 1995. She was a homemaker and helped on the farm in many ways and also worked as a clerk at Jack's Cash & Carry Grocery Store in Maxwell for 6 years and also as a nurse's aide at Oak Park Manor in Nevada for several years. She was a member of the Peoria United Methodist Church, the UMW, she was a Sunday School Superintendent and teacher and enjoyed helping with the Vacation Bible School. She was also a member of the Maxwell Music Parents. Esther enjoyed mushroom hunting, quilting, gardening and canning. She will be remembered as a gracious hostess.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David A. (Mary Ann) Brown from Forest City, NC, Darryl E. (Nancy Ann) Brown from Richardson, TX; three daughters and a son-in-law, Kathryn K. Marshall of Nevada, IA, Gloria J. Elding of Huxley, IA, and Shirley (Mike) Coughenour of Maxwell, IA; 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; 1 brother, Max Swalwell of Maxwell, IA; and a sister, Helen Hagge of Ogden, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 4 brothers, Dudley Swalwell, Gene Swalwell, Everett Swalwell and Ralph Swalwell, and 3 sisters, Harriett Goode, Doris Dockery, and Alice Meyers.

Funeral services were Friday at Maxwell United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Cobb and Rev. Dean Kelly officiating. Burial was in the Collins Evergreen Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Esther Brown Memorial Fund.

The Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell handled arrangements.
