Russel Ray French

Russell Ray French, 88, of Des Moines, IA, died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 1988, at Des Moines General Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services will be Friday, Aug. 5, at 10 a.m., at Cooper Funeral Home in Maxwell with Rev. David Stauffer officiating. Burial will be in Maxwell cemetery at Maxwell. Mr. French was born March 22, 1900, in Fernald IA to Chalres E. French and Nancy Anna Cook. He was married to Iva Marie Sipling on Dec. 29, 1920. He was a retired farmer. He worked at the Iowa State University research Farm 23 years and retired in 1967. Mr. French was formerly of Maxwell and the Nevada and Fernald Area. He was a member of Stover Memorial Church of the Brethren in Des Moines and served many years as a trustee. He helped establish the Highland Park senior Drop-in Center in Des Moines. Survivors include his wife, Iva, of Des Moines; a daughter, Lois Olsan of West Des Moines IA; a son, Lawrence French of Maxwell; a sister Wilda Wolf of Lubbock, TX; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers. Vistation was held at the funeral home Thursday, Aug. 4, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. A memorial fund has been establihed for Easter Seals and a private handicapped fund.
