PORTER, WILLIAM W. (1853-1913)

THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, April 19, 1913, page 1, column 4. “WILLIAM W. PORTER – Mr. and Mrs. Bill McQuiston returned last Friday from Colfax, where Mrs. McQuiston has been most of the time for the last two months, helping care for her brother W. W. Porter, who will be remembered as a former resident and prosperous farmer in this neighborhood. Mr. Porter passed away on March 31st, and we take the following obituary from last weeks COLFAX CLIPPER: William W. Porter was born in Scott county, Iowa, September 21, 1853, and died at his late home two miles east of Colfax, Monday, March 31, 1913. When twelve years old he came to Jasper county with his parents and located near Ira, where he grew to manhood. He was married to Mary Jones, January 1, 1876. Two sons were born to this union: Charles R., now a resident of Kingfisher, Okla., and Alva H. of Lead, South Dakota. His second wife was Cynthia Goodell, to whom he was married February 28, 1891, who bore him three sons, Roy R., Guy R. and Hubert, all survive him and are at home with their mother. A funeral service was held at the home at 10:00 a.m. yesterday; the body was taken to Union Chapel near Ira, where the funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., conducted by Rev. Edward Pruitt, of this city. Interment was in the Chapel cemetery.
