THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, March 8, 2006.

Marvin A. Anderson, 93, of Ames, died Monday, March 6, at Greenhills Healthcare Center. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 10, at Bethesda Lutheran Church with the Rev. Randy Gehring officiating. Burial will be in Iowa State University Cemetery.

Marvin was born Jan. 31, 1913, in Stanhope to Lewis H. and Olga M. (Husby) Anderson. He graduated from Blue Earth High School in Blue Earth, Minn. He attended Waldorf Junior College and received a bachelor's degree (1939), a master's degree (1949) and a doctorate (1955) from Iowa State University.

He joined Iowa State as a 4-H club agent in the Cooperative Extension Service in Wayne County. From 1940-42, he was a district soils specialist serving in several Iowa counties from the office in Creston. He joined the central staff as an extension agronomist and associate in 1942. From May 1944 to March 1946, he served in the U.S. Navy, attaining the rank of lieutenant. He became director and dean of university extension. He retired from ISU in 1974.

In 1940, he married Mariette B. Bamble, who preceded him in death in December 1968. In March 1970, he married Julia M. Faltinson. He was a member of Rotary International and a charter member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church and later a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Julia of Ames; two sons Mark (Marlies) of Spencerport, N.Y., and Merrill (Lois) of Davenport; two daughters, Mary Kay (Peter) Wislocki of Westfield, N.J., and Martha (Hal) Stahl of Aplington; seven grandchildren; and one brother, Julian Anderson of Mt. Prospect, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; and three brothers, Orlin, Morris and Arvid.

A gathering of friends will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, March 9, at Adams Funeral Home.
